The Liberty Incident

Interview of Dean Rusk

Following the interview, I sent the initial draft of the transcript to Dean Rusk for review via my letter dated May 2, 1989. He responded with his letter dated May 17, 1989.

Dean Rusk gave a deed of gift to a four part oral history to the Lyndon Baines Johnson Library on July 31, 1987. Transcripts of all four sessions are available from the library. The legal agreement between Dean Rusk dated July 31, 1987 showing the dates of all the interviews preceeds the first twelve pages of the last interview on March 8, 1970. All four interviews were conducted by Paige E. Mulhollan. It is interesting to note that the Liberty incident was not mentioned by Dean Rusk in any of the interviews.
